The choices being made in Washington today are pointing America in the wrong direction. If we stand by, and do nothing, history will judge our generation as the beginning of America’s decline. We’re Americans. We can do better than this. And that’s why I’m running for the United States Senate.
With the right leadership, we can turn the economy around and create jobs, restore fiscal responsibility, strengthen American culture, and maintain a strong national defense.
JOBS
Government cannot create wealth. Government can create the conditions for small businesses and entrepreneurs to take risks, invest, and create jobs.
That means low taxes, getting our government debt under control, and fair, predictable regulations. We need expanded free trade opportunities, and an all-of-the-above energy policy that will increase domestic energy production while creating tens of thousands of jobs.
It is the free enterprise system that gave America the strongest economy in the world. In the Senate, I will work to strengthen free enterprise so that we can get back to strong growth and job creation.
SPENDING AND DEBT
Washington is spending money we don’t have and it has to stop. Just how bad has it become?
Over the last three years, while New Mexicans were making tough decisions, spending less and living within their means, Washington went on a spending spree, increasing spending by 30%.
Our national debt has increased by more than one-third since President Obama took office. If we stay on the path we’re on, soon our debt will be larger than our entire economy. That is irresponsible and unsustainable.
In the Senate, I will fight everyday to make government live within its means.
REGULATIONS
The red tape factory in Washington has been working overtime and it is strangling small business — the engine of job growth in America.
The federal government is required to identify all new regulations that would cost $100 million or more. In 2011 alone the Obama Administration proposed 219 of them.
Regulatory uncertainty keeps employers from hiring new workers. Burdensome regulations increase the cost of doing business, which then increases costs for the consumer.
In the Senate, I will fight for a moratorium on new regulations, and to simplify or rescind ones we already have.
VALUES
I believe America is best when it respects the centrality of family in our society, and promotes a culture of life. I am pro-life and believe that marriage – the union of one man and one woman as husband and wife – is the best institution for raising children.
In the Senate, I will oppose any effort to undermine these values in our nation.
HEALTHCARE
I am running for the Senate because I trust people more than I trust government to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. But that is not what we have today with Obamacare. Obamacare does nothing to control the spiraling cost of care. It raises taxes, cuts Medicare, costs more, and gives people less control over their health care decisions.
For the first time in American history, every citizen will be required to purchase a government approved product. If Washington can mandate how people must spend their money, there is no limit to government power. The law is unconstitutional and if it is not thrown out by the Supreme Court, I will fight to make sure it is repealed and replaced.
DEFENSE
The first and most important responsibility of the federal government is to provide for the common defense. A strong military is the best way to keep the peace. Our young men and women in the military should only be sent into harm’s way to protect America’s vital national interests, with clear missions, and with the force necessary to win and come home again.
Three generations of my family have served in uniform. I have spent my adult life serving to protect our country and I will continue to do so in the Senate.
